Parent Partnership meeting Wednesday May 4th
This is the 3rd of our meetings about our Drug Prevention program with Adriano Bolanos. Starting next week, Adriano will be working with grade 7 students on the themes of smoking and alcohol as part of our Life Skills program. All students will attend 2 talks and 2 workshops.
We look forward to seeing you in the Little Theatre at 6pm.

Class of 2016: Poetry competition
Grade 7 students have been invited to participate in a Spanish Poetry Competition - see below for rules and information!
BASES DEL CONCURSO DE POESÍA
EL BUEN USO DEL AGUA
• Podrán participar los alumnos de KS3, es decir, sexto, séptimo y octavo grado.
• La poesía deberá tratar un tema relacionado con el uso del agua y se escribirá en español.
• Deberá presentarse en copia de computadora, letra arial o new times roman, número 12 o en letra manuscrita legible.
• El trabajo deberá incluir una carátula con el nombre del alumno, de la institución, de la poesía y del grado.
• Se descalificarán los trabajos con faltas de ortografía, tachones y enmiendas.
• Se descalificarán los trabajos que incluyan palabras soeces o expresiones con doble sentido.
• Los versos de la poesía tendrán un mínimo de 25 y un máximo 30.
• Fecha límite de entrega: 21 de marzo
• Los trabajos se entregarán a los profesores de español.

Class of 2016: Exam instructions
There are only 4 school days left until the exam week starts and students should already be well ahead with their preparation. The revised timetable can be seen below, and the topic list (now with correct Maths topics!) and exam instructions can be found on separate pages (select from the tabs above).
The remaining days will be spent revising with teachers and so it is crucial that students attend school, including on 22nd and 23rd March, despite the US president's visit to El Salvador. We expect minimal disruption, if any, and so will expect all students in lessons.

Class of 2016 - Exam timetable and topics
As you know, the Exam Cal week for Grade 7 is fast approaching... there are only 14 school days to go!!! The timetable for the exams, which start on Tuesday 22nd March is below. A list of all the topics for each subject can be found by selecting the "EXAM CAL March 2010" page from the list above.

Class of 2016 - FUNPRES session and Parent Partnership Meeting

Class of 2016: Outstanding!
The word outstanding has more than one meaning... it can mean excellent, and it is in this way that I use it for the first news of this post; but can also mean overdue, as is the case for the second item!
Maths Counts - Outstanding performances!
A number of grade 6-8 ABC students competed against schools from around Central America last week in the Maths Relay competition. All of the participants did us proud but a special mention must go to the team who won. First place went to an ABC team, made up of 8 students, 2 of whom are from grade 7: Andrea Osegueda and Andres Butter - congratulations, a great achievement. Competition continued the following day with Maths Counts. Again an ABC team took first place - this time a team of 4... 3 grade 8s plus grade 7s Andres Butter who will now have the opportunity to compete in the next round, which will be held in Mexico! Good luck Andres!

Class of 2016: Leadership Week

As you know Empowerment and leadership are very important aspects to us here at the ABC, as well as our Life Skills program. I am pleased to announce that on Thursday 27th January, a guest speaker Vicky Lein will be with us to offer a workshop to our male students from 2:00 – 3:00 pm. You may be aware that we are running a programme with FUNPRES for girls.
The aim of these workshops is to empower students to behave in an integral way in their different environments such as family, social and school. At the same time we aim for our students to become role models in positive living, especially by reflecting on their attitudes towards their relationships with female friends and peers.
Vicky Lein will also work with all of our grade 6, 7, 8, 9 and 11 in Empowerment and Leadership.
This program is compulsory and free of charge. However, if your son cannot attend on Thursday from 2:00 – 3:00 pm, we ask you to excuse him by contacting Marielos Soto at marielossoto@abc-net.edu.sv / 2241 -4473. We trust we have your cooperation in encouraging your son to participate actively at this workshop which we know will bring them and the ABC community a lot of benefit.
Como ustedes sabrán, el tema de empoderamiento y liderazgo es muy importante para nosotros en la ABC, al igual que nuestro programa de Habilidades para la Vida. Me alegra comunicarles que el próximo jueves 27 de enero, la educadora Vicky Lein estará con nosotros para ofrecer a nuestros alumnos varones un taller de 2:00- 3:00pm. Cabe mencionar que nuestras alumnas están recibiendo talleres con la colaboración de FUNPRES.
El objetivo de estos talleres es el empoderamiento de los alumnos para desarrollarse de forma integral en los diferentes ambientes en los que se desenvuelven- el ambiente familiar, social y escolar. Al mismo tiempo buscamos que los alumnos se conviertan en modelos de convivencia positiva; especialmente haciendo reflexión sobre sus actitudes hacia las relaciones interpersonales con sus amigas y compañeras.
Vicky Lein también estará trabajando con los alumnos y alumnas de 6º, 7º, 8º, 9º y 11º grado en empoderamiento y liderazgo.
Este programa es de carácter obligatorio y es totalmente gratuito. Sin embargo, si su hijo no puede asistir a la sesión del jueves de 2:00- 3:00pm, esperamos que se comuniquen con Marielos Soto al 2241-4473 o marielossoto@abc-net.edu.sv Esperamos su apoyo a motivar a sus hijos a que participen activamente en estos talleres que estamos seguros serán de mucho beneficio para ellos mismos y para la comunidad de la ABC.

We start off the year with the 2nd empowerment workshop for girls which takes place for grade 7 students on Tuesday 18th January. See the information below for more details.
Cal 2 ends on 24th February. Students have set targets in their planners and will review their progress at the end of the cal.
Exam week starts 22nd March - only 10 weeks away. Students should start preparing early and will be given help with exam techniques by our LSU department in the lead-up to the exams.
Empowerment workshop for girls "Self Esteem and Self Care" THIS WEEK!!!We are offering these workshops to help ABC girls understand the importance of making the right choices in their lives as they grow up and face gender related pressures. They are delivered by FUNPRES with our LSU team. Each session is from 2.30 - 4.30 and is optional but we hope ALL girls will come. They are FREE - Get in touch with your Head of Year or myself to sign up! Thursday 13th January - 9th, 10 and 11th, 12th grade Tuesday 18th January - 6th, 7th and 8th.
Estamos ofreciendo estos talleres para ayudarle a las alumnas de la ABC a comprender la importancia de hacer elecciones correctas en sus vidas y poder asi enfrentar presiones relacionadas al genero de una mejor manera.
